Our Journey
From a bold vision in 2020 to a Nordic platform trusted by retailers, property developers and cities, here's how we've grown.

The vision becomes reality
Plaace is founded
Plaace was founded in Norway by Snorre, Tobias and Peder. Together they shared a vision of using data and AI to create more vibrant cities. They set out to build a platform that would help retailers, property developers and city developers better understand local market conditions.
Pilot customers
Working closely with early pilot customers, we ensured that our platform would meet real market needs. This culminated in the launch of the first version of our platform by the end of 2020.

Introducing area profiles, more datasets and subscription services
Area profiles
In close collaboration with our pilot customers, we continued to improve our services. We launched new area profiles and expanded our datasets to provide more actionable insights.
Consumer patterns
By adding movement data and card transactions to the platform, we gave our customers deeper insights into consumer behaviour and trends. This allowed us to solve more use cases and deliver more refined analyses.
Freemium and subscription services
To make our platform accessible to a wide range of users, we launched a freemium service. Shortly after, we converted many of our pilot participants to paying customers by introducing subscription services.

A year of powerful new features
In 2022 we introduced a whole series of powerful features:
- Fit Score — a unique feature to evaluate location suitability based on revenue potential.
- Similar Areas — helping users identify areas with comparable characteristics for expansion or benchmarking.
- Compare — enabling side-by-side comparison of locations for strategic planning.
- Industry Insights — providing users with sector-specific trends and data.
In addition, we began integrating machine-learning-powered recommendation features, further personalising insights for each user.

Focus on flexibility and customer experience
Dashboards
We introduced customisable dashboards to help users easily collect, organise and present insights. This feature provides flexibility, allowing users to focus on what drives informed decisions in their specific use case. Dashboards make it easy to share insights with internal and external stakeholders.
Customer success
With a focus on usability and customer success, we simplified the user interface and enhanced key features to support the most common use cases. These improvements provide greater value to customers and encourage more frequent use of the platform.

Expansion in the Nordics
Launch in Scandinavia
Plaace took a major step forward with our launch in Sweden and Denmark, offering retailers and city developers unique area insights for every city in Scandinavia — all within a single platform.
Launch in Finland
We continued our Nordic journey with the launch of Plaace in Finland, further strengthening our presence in the region. This expansion enables more businesses and cities to thrive, and provides valuable insights for those operating across the Nordics.
